This 2025 Refresh version is slightly different than the original version in that there are now 33 Tickets included in the game as opposed to 30 in the original. If you have the USA 1910 expansion, you already have the three new tickets:
- Atlanta – Washington: 4 points
- Omaha – New Orleans: 8 points
- San Francisco – Washington: 21 points
One other rule change is that players now are dealt four cards to start the game, from which they must keep two.
The cover art has been re-done, and it is a more modernized, all inclusive cover with characters of multiple ages, races, hair color and belt types on the cover.
The board is cleaner, and it also uses a bolder, easier-to-read font than the original. The geographic quirks of the board remain unchanged. You’ll still somehow find Portland on the Pacific Coast, and Helena is still a bit more to the East than it really is (though it has to be in its location so that the train spaces fit… just go with it).
Another positive change for me is the alteration of the score track. No longer will people have to figure out scores in base 80. The score track now goes to a much more intuitive 100 around the edge of the board!
The cards are nicely improved – mostly in size. Again, if you have the 1910 USA expansion, you’re already used to using the larger size cards. Now, everyone gets large train cards that can more easily be held in your hands. The color blind assisting icons are also a bit more distinct on the new larger cards.
The format of the ticket cards is also altered, with the ticket value now being isolated on the right of the card and the map showing a bit more of the track coming out of each of the two cities. I find that it is a bit easier to read the cities on the new cards as well…
If your current copy is still in good shape, the extra three cards are honestly not enough to merit a purchase of this version, but I would definitely keep your eye out for the rumored refresh of Ticket to Ride 1910 USA which will provide you with nearly double the number of tickets. That’s an essential expansion IMO that will also hopefully get its own refresh soon.
